The AI Visibility Index
46% of America's Top Injury Firms Are Invisible to AI

We asked ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Perplexity, and Grok the questions injured people actually ask. Then we checked whether America's 50 biggest personal injury firms ever came up. Most firms are missing from at least one answer engine. Some are missing from all of them.

Ask about any of these firms by name and the AI can describe them in detail

AI knows who you are.
It just doesn't send you clients.

The Recognition Gap is the study's most striking finding. AI platforms recognize essentially every top firm when asked directly. But across 51 firm-platform pairs, the same AI that can recite a firm's history never once names it when a potential client asks who to hire.

A firm counts as visible on a platform if it is mentioned in at least one response to the ten unbranded questions. Google AI Overviews were sampled on three questions per firm and are reported separately.

Key findings

01

Fame does not equal visibility

Firms with national TV campaigns and nine-figure ad budgets are missing from AI answers in their own cities. One New York giant appears in zero of nine ChatGPT responses about New York injury law.

02

The Recognition Gap is the rule, not the exception

46% of firms have at least one platform that knows them in detail but never recommends them. Recognition is not the problem. Retrieval at the moment a client asks is.

03

Every platform has its own map

A firm can dominate Gemini and be absent from Perplexity. Twenty percentage points separate the most and least generous platforms. Optimizing for one engine is not optimizing for AI.

04

One top-50 firm is invisible everywhere

Despite ranking among the nation's largest injury practices, one firm never appeared in a single answer on any platform tested.

The Visibility Tiers

Each firm graded by how many of the six platforms mention it at least once.

TIER A28

Visible on 5 to 6 platforms

TIER B13

Visible on 3 to 4 platforms

TIER C8

Visible on 1 to 2 platforms

TIER D1

Visible nowhere

Methodology

In July 2026, Faneros tested the 50 largest US personal injury firms, selected from public rankings, against 12 questions per firm: 10 unbranded buyer-intent questions localized to each firm's home market ("best car accident lawyer in [city]", "I was just in a car accident, who should I call?") and 2 direct brand questions. Every question ran on ChatGPT, Claude, Gemini, Perplexity, and Grok; Google AI Overviews were sampled on 3 questions per firm. All 3,000+ raw responses were archived before scoring. A firm counts as visible on a platform if any unbranded response names it (matched with punctuation and formatting variants, verified against false positives), and recognized if the platform answers direct brand questions substantively. Scoring definitions were locked before any scan ran. Full methodology and scoring code available on request: research@faneros.ai
